Overview: During this webquest, students will use an inquiry approach to learning about how the earth changes, form questions about these change processes and interact with others using a global project that maps out changes in different parts of the world.
Objectives: Students will learn about how the changes in earth can happen very quickly or very slowly and the results of those changes. Some events happen very quickly (volcanic eruptions, earthquakes). Some events happen very slowly, over time (erosion of rocks). Wind can change the shape of the land. Water can change the shape of the land.
Standards:
Science
2-ESS1-1. Use information from several sources to provide evidence that Earth events can occur quickly or slowly.
ELA/Literacy
RI.2.1Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. (2-ESS1-1)
RI.2.3Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text. (2-ESS1-1)
W.2.6With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. (2-ESS1-1)
W.2.7Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations). (2-ESS1-1)
W.2.8Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question. (2-ESS1-1)
SL.2.2Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media. (2-ESS1-1)
Descriptions: Students will follow all of the tasks starting with 1 through 6. This should take 6-8 lesson times 30-45 minutes. Each task may take longer if your class isn't familiar with kidblog or posting on padlet. These will take additional classroom times to teach the technology aspect of how these work.
Assessment Tools: Science Journals with questions or information about the movie as well as their top three choices of what they would like to do additional research on.
Acculminating Activity - Using VoiceThread after they research more information on their topic is a great place to showcase their learning. They will develop at least 4 slides and information on their process or earth change, research information on it and then upload the slides to VoiceThread, divide up their final copy and read their report on appropriate slides.
